Premier League round-up
The Premier League returned after the international break with an action-packed Saturday. In the two big matches of the weekend, Manchester City hosted Liverpool while Tottenham visited Everton. The big clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United were all in action. In this article, we give you a round-up of all of Saturday's matches.
City thrash Liverpool 5-0
City handed a 5-0 thrashing to 10-man Liverpool at the Etihad yesterday to send an ominous message of intent to their title rivals. The visitors were already trailing to Aguero's goal when Mane was red-carded for a high challenge on Ederson. Thereafter, City took ruthless advantage of their numerical advantage as Jesus and Sane each scored a brace in the second half.
Chelsea triumph Leicester, Arsenal win comfortable
Chelsea resisted a buoyant Leicester side to register a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Morata and N'Golo Kante. Jamie Vardy's penalty sparked the hosts into life in a frenetic final half-hour, but Chelsea held their own. Meanwhile, Arsenal returned to winning ways against Bournemouth as Danny Welbeck scored twice on either side of the halfway mark and set up Alexandre Lacazette in between.
Tottenham sweep Everton, United held at Stoke
Harry Kane scored his first and second goals of the season after a dry August as Tottenham swept past Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. At Stoke, United were held to a 2-2 draw by the Potters, who showcased an exemplary display of resolute defending. Choupo-Moting scored twice for Stoke while Lukaku and Rashford found the net for United.
