Some of the Premier League's top clubs pulled out fascinating deals on the final day of the summer transfer window. The transfer window for EPL came to an end on August 8, much ahead of the other European leagues. Here are some of the lucrative signings done by clubs on deadline day in the Premier League.
17 transfers done on a hectic deadline day
There were a total of 17 transfers in the Premier League deadline day. The official amount spent was a whopping £170 mn. Arsenal were pretty busy alongside arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The EPL transfer window had opened on 16 May, 2019 this year.
Alex Iwobi makes a thrilling move to Everton from Arsenal
Another surprising move came in the form of Alex Iwobi, who changed pastures from Arsenal to Everton. The Toffees signed the forward on a five-year deal for a fee that could rise to £ 34mn. Iwobi came through the ranks at Arsenal, scoring 15 goals in 149 games. Everton made some superb acquisitions in the window. With Iwobi, the forward line gains sheer versatility.
Arsenal steal David Luiz from Chelsea
The most talked-about deadline day signing was that of David Luiz. The experienced defender made a move to rivals Arsenal from Chelsea. Luiz, who signed an extension with the Blues in May 2019, surprised one and all with a two-year deal for a fee of £8 mn. The central defender made 248 appearances for Chelsea across two spells with the club.
22-year-old left-back Kieran Tierney joins Arsenal from Celtic
Arsenal also roped in Celtic full-back, Kieran Tierney. The 22-year-old left-back completed a medical on Thursday after a stunning £25 mn move. "It's a hard decision to leave a club that you love so much. People need to know that," said the defender.
Tottenham sign Sessengon and Giovani lo Celso
Tottenham Hotspur had a busy finish in the summer transfer window. The London giants signed England Under-21 winger Ryan Sessegnon for £25 mn from Fulham. Besides the 19-year-old youngster, the club also roped in Argentina midfielder Giovani lo Celso on loan from Real Betis. Tottenham also wanted to sign Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, but a proposed deal fell through.

The other top signings on deadline day saw Watford acquiring Ismaila Sarr from Rennes. Leicester City got themselves mid-fielder Dennis Praet for 18 million. Meanwhile, Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater moved to Burnley. Manchester City roped in Scott Carson from Derby. Whereas, Andy Carroll made his return to Newcastle United as a free agent. Manchester United didn't land a forward, despite getting rid of Lukaku.
