Premier League 2019-20: Analyzing the takeaways from match-week 8
2019-20 season of the Premier League has already thrown several surprises till now, as the element of unpredictability kicked in since the match-week one. The match-week eight too was filled with surprises and a few unpredictable results have come our way, along with some startling wins and heartbreaking loses. On the same note, we analyze the takeaways from this week.
Spurs continue to underperform
Tottenham Hotspur were a surprise package last season as they ended up as the Champions League runners-up. But they have failed to deliver this term. Having won just three matches so far, their latest 0-3 loss against Brighton and Hove Albion, on Saturday, have seriously dented their chances of winning a title. Undoubtedly, Mauricio Pochettino's job is under serious scanner.
Liverpool continue to defy all odds
Liverpool have been a force to reckon with under Jurgen Klopp, having won the Champions League last season. And, they have continued with the same momentum this term. They are currently on a 8-match winning streak in the EPL. With the latest 2-1 win over Leicester City, Klopp and his boys look invincible this season. They are favorites to win their first EPL title.
Chelsea still in the race following Southampton rout
The UEFA Europa League winners have been not consistent this season, but continue to possess a brutal mentality, as was evident this week against Southampton. With a 4-1 win, they are currently on the fifth spot, courtesy of amazing teamwork, while most of the credit goes to their senior players. As of now, a consistent performance could still help them end as top four.
Manchester City have been inconsistent
Defending champions Manchester City have been one of the surprise packages this season, not for their awesome gameplay, but their underwhelming performance. Their title chances got a blow following an embarrassing 0-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at home. Although Pep Guardiola had admitted that City are in for a tough season ahead, it's about time he solves their defensive woes for a serious turnaround.
Are Arsenal the dark horses this season?
Arsenal too have been quite inconsistent this season. However, with their latest 1-0 win over Bournemouth, they have astonishingly reached the third spot on the table. They have become cemented their chances of qualifying for Champions League as they are just a point behind City. While Arsenal too have their issues with the attack, they can still do the unexpected.
Manchester United's unsurprising dip continues to baffle fans
Manchester United are off to one of their worst starts, as their latest 0-1 loss to Newcastle United has pushed them down to the 12th spot on the table. While the loss might not come as a shock to the fans, they are certainly baffled as to what would it take for the club to bounce back. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should better hurry.
