Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna to miss Duleep Trophy 2024 opener
The India A team, led by Shubman Gill, has suffered a significant blow ahead of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Star pacer Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of the first game due to insufficient match fitness. The news comes as a setback for the team and fans who were anticipating his return in the tournament. Here are further details.
Krishna's injury and rehabilitation journey
Krishna has been on a recovery path since undergoing surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in February this year. His rehabilitation process is being carried out at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. This injury also led to him missing the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Rajasthan Royals (RR) announced South African spinner Keshav Maharaj as replacement for injured pacer Krishna for the rest of the IPL 2024 season.
Krishna's aspirations and BCCI's silence
Krishna was aiming to return with the upcoming 2024 Duleep Trophy, in hopes of reclaiming his place in India's Test squad for the two-match series against Bangladesh at home. However, the BCCI has not yet provided any update on his fitness or availability for future fixtures. The pacer had initially sustained a left quadriceps injury while bowling for his state team Karnataka against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year.
Krishna's international cricket journey
Krishna made his Team India debut in an ODI against England in 2021. He earned his T20I and Test caps in 2023 against Ireland and South Africa, respectively. He has represented India in two Tests, 17 ODIs, and five T20Is so far. Despite his injury setbacks, Krishna's contributions to the team have been significant with a total of 39 wickets across all formats.
