Football: Three contenders for Chelsea's Player of the Year
As the 2017-18 Premier League season is coming to an end, clubs are soon set to announce their Player of the Year. Last season champions Chelsea have had a forgettable season so far but it's not over yet. They still have a shot at winning the FA Cup. Here we look at three contenders for Player of the Year award.
Marcos Alonso has been impactful
Left-back Marcos Alonso has been a prime asset for Antonio Conte. Alonso has been one of the consistent performers for Chelsea this season. He had continued from where he left last season and has played 43 matches, scoring 7 times. Alonso was the only Blues player to be named in PFA team of the year. His pace and positioning attributes make him impressive.
Eden Hazard once again in the mix
The Belgian wizard has found the back of the net 16 times in 44 matches across all competitions. Two more goals will see him break last season's tally of 17. He also has nine assists to his name. Hazard has been the heart of Chelsea's attack and his versatility allowed Conte to use him in various positions. Hazard won the award last season.
N'Golo Kante a machine in midfield
Tireless, strong and intelligent, this is what sums up N'Golo Kante. The Frenchman has been a force to be reckoned with in midfield and played superbly in the Champions League. In a season where Chelsea's defense let them down, Kante delivered performances regularly. He has played 41 matches so far and scored a solitary goal. He continues to remain the most vital Chelsea player.
Our verdict on the possible winner
Given Hazard's importance and role in the side, it is highly likely that he will be awarded. His performances have been similar to last season and he could once again walk away with the trophy. Marcos Alonso comes a close second.
