Mondo Duplantis breaks his own world record in pole vault
Sweden's pole vault sensation, Mondo Duplantis, has once again rewritten the history books by surpassing his own world record. At the Silesia Diamond League meeting on Sunday, Duplantis achieved an impressive height of 6.26 meters on his second attempt. This latest feat marks a one-centimeter improvement over his previous record set earlier this month at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Duplantis's journey to pole vault dominance
Duplantis' recent achievement is his 10th world record, highlighting his consistent dominance in the sport. In Paris, he had clinched gold with a remarkable 6.00-meter vault after just four successful attempts. However, the night was far from over as he went on to surpass this mark by clearing an astounding 6.25 meters, setting a new world record at that time.
Duplantis outshone competitors at Silesia Diamond League
Duplantis's extraordinary performance at the Silesia Diamond League meeting not only broke records but also outshone his competitors. He successfully fended off stiff competition from American Sam Kendricks, who secured silver, and Greece's Emmanouil Karalis, who claimed bronze. After securing his gold medal in Paris, Duplantis had effortlessly surpassed the Olympic record previously held by Thiago Braz of 6.03 meters with a 6.10-meter jump on his first try.
Duplantis's gratitude toward supportive crowd
Duplantis expressed his gratitude to the Polish crowd for their unwavering support. He fondly recalled his first world record at the same venue, stating, "It almost feels weird and unnatural to get so much love and support from the crowds when I compete. I see that especially in Poland." He further added that "The energy in this stadium just keeps getting better every year."
