Can Paul Pogba make the difference for Manchester United?
Paul Pogba hasn't quite found it going with Manchester United in the two seasons under manager Jose Mourinho. He has had some defining moments, but overall he has been a disappointment. After having a stunning World Cup for France, the player will hope to replicate the form in the upcoming season. If United are to win trophies, then Pogba needs to rise. Here's more!
Pogba was decisive in the World Cup
Pogba had an excellent World Cup and was well supported by N'Golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi. The 25-year-old dictated the pitch in the decisive knock-outs, before showing his calibre in the final. The feeling of scoring a goal in the finale, will do him a world of good. Now it remains to be seen whether Jose can get the best out of him.
Pogba endured a difficult 2017-18 campaign
Pogba was bought in 2016 from Juventus for a world record fee. He was expected to deliver consistency which he enjoyed in Turin. But he never reached those heights and had a difficult 2017-18 campaign. He went public about the differences he had with Jose as there were constant reports of him leaving the club. He was benched on several occasions.
What Jose said about the Frenchman?
United boss Mourinho feels that it is up to Pogba to realize why he was so good at the World Cup. The Portuguese praised his impact during 2018 edition and also revealed that he sent Pogba a different message than the other players, as he won the trophy. Former United player Zlatan praised Pogba and stated his performances will shut the critics.
The task ahead for Pogba
The task that lies ahead for both Jose and Pogba is to sort their differences out which transpired last season and help each other blossom. Pogba needs to show his capabilities on a regular basis and perhaps the performances in Russia will help him massively. This could just be Pogba's season where he would come out and dictate proceedings and United need just that.
The current situation
Pogba is currently resting after the heroics in Russia. United, on the other hand, are in USA and are preparing for their pre-season tour. The player is being linked with a move to Barcelona, but that is unlikely to materialize.
