Which players should Manchester United sign next summer?
Manchester United have endured one of the most disappointing seasons in the post-Ferguson era. Having finished sixth in the Premier League this season, they even failed to make it to the Champions League. As a result, we believe there are a few signings they need in order to become competitive next season. But who can be those players? We decode.
A rock solid defender
United have had a long-standing issue with the defense, and after conceding 54 goals this season, it is high time they secure a top defender. Leicester City's Harry Maguire has been their wall of defense the entire season, besides scoring three goals. He also played a brilliant role in England's 2018 World Cup campaign, and was targeted by former manager Jose Mourinho as well.
Koulibaly could be the solution to United's sloppy defense
United have been reluctant in spending too much on players. But, if the can, they should spend on Kalidou Koulibaly, who has been a sensation for Napoli. However, he won't come for cheap, as Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has declared that they would need something really big to consider selling him. Incidentally, United's previous offer of £95 million had got rejected.
The Spanish replacement for Juan Mata
Mid-fielder Juan Mata could be on his way out, while we believe that the club can replace him with fellow Spanish star Isco. There are also reports that he has seemingly fallen off with Real Madrid, while it is not sure if manager Zinedine Zidane would like to keep him. Meanwhile, known to provide great assists, he could be of immense help to United.
A German solution for this English team
While he might not have scored many goals this season, Toni Kroos has always been Madrid's pillar of their midfield. Known to build up play and create opportunities, United would need his services to come up with most chances, while the rest would rely on their forwards. Moreover, if it comes down to him, he could be handy at scoring goals himself.
The Argentine forward force
While he might not be Lionel Messi, but Argentine striker Mauro Icardi has certainly been sensational, playing for Inter Milan. Having scored 16 from 29 this season, he has certainly grabbed eyes of quite a few clubs, including United. With Romelu Lukaku rumored to leave, Icardi could bring in his attacking force, which would highly work in Premier League and give United the edge.
Homecoming for Welsh superstar
Gareth Bale is long rumored to make a comeback to Premier League, following his inability to make a strong impact for Madrid, especially following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. Initially overshadowed by Ronaldo's success, Bale was given ample opportunities this season. However, scoring just 14 goals, followed by UCL pre-quarters exit, has done no good. United should look to acquire his services.
