Piyush Chawla becomes second-highest wicket-taker in IPL: Key stats
Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla has become the second-highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran leg-spinner reached the landmark in Match 51 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai. With his first wicket, Chawla surpassed Dwayne Bravo to attain the second spot. Chawla is now only behind Yuzvendra Chahal in terms of IPL wickets.
Second-most IPL wickets
As mentioned, Chawla now has the second-most wickets in the IPL. The Indian leg-spinner has played for a host of franchises, including MI, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). In terms of IPL wickets, Chawla overtook Bravo, who scalped 183 wickets in his career. The former is behind top-placed Chahal (200).

Chawla is among the few active players who made their IPL debut in the inaugural season (2008). As of now, he has taken 184 wickets from 189 matches at an average of under 28. While Chawla's economy rate is under 8, his tally includes two four-wicket hauls. Notably, no other bowler than Chawla, Bravo, and Chahal own over 180 wickets in the IPL.

Chawla claimed 1/15 from three overs against the Knight Riders. He dismissed Rinku Singh in the seventh over. KKR could only manage 169/10 in 19.5 overs.
