IPL: Philip Salt breaks records in KKR's win over DC
Philip Salt starred with a 68-run knock in Kolkata Knight Riders' win over Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 at Eden Gardens. Salt struck at a staggering 206.06 as KKR chased down 154 in 16.3 overs. He shared a 79-run opening stand with Sunil Narine and slammed his sixth IPL fifty. Salt now has the most runs at Eden Gardens in an IPL season.
Salt's assault in Kolkata
As has been the case, Salt and Narine came out all guns blazing in a rather modest run-chase. Salt, who majorly held the strike, displayed his array of strokes around the ground. The Englishman hammered a 33-ball 68 (7 fours and 5 sixes). Interestingly, he was dropped in the second over off Khaleel Ahmed's bowling. Axar Patel eventually knocked over Salt with a peach.
Most runs at Eden Gardens in IPL 2024
As mentioned, Salt now has the most runs at Eden Gardens in an IPL season. He went past Sourav Ganguly's tally (331 runs in 2010). Notably, 344 of Salt's 392 runs in IPL 2024 have come at this venue in Kolkata. Each of his four half-centuries have been recorded here. Salt has a strike rate of 186.95 at Eden Gardens in IPL 2024.

Salt was at his attacking best in the Powerplay, where KKR scored 79/0. He contributed with 60 runs in this phase, the most by a KKR batter within Powerplay in the IPL. His compatriot Narine earlier held this record (54 vs RCB, 2017). As per Cricbuzz, Salt now has 15 sixes in the Powerplay in IPL 2024, the third-most in this regard.
Salt races past 600 IPL runs
Salt slammed his sixth half-century in the IPL tonight. He also raced past 600 IPL runs with this knock. In 18 IPL encounters, Salt has racked up 610 runs at an average of 38.12. His strike rate reads 174.28. Salt, who made his IPL debut with DC in 2023, scored 218 runs from nine games last season (SR: 163.91).
How did the match pan out?
DC had a positive start, batting first. However, they succumbed to the spin-friendly Eden track and lost six wickets before 100. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora scalped regular wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy took a three-fer. Kuldeep Yadav's unbeaten 35 helped DC reach 153/9. In response, a 33-ball 68 from Salt made the chase one-sided. Shreyas Iyer (33*) and Venkatesh Iyer (26*) got KKR home.
