Will Manchester City be able to replace 'special' Vincent Kompany?
Manchester City had a glorious year as they completed domestic treble in 2018/19. Besides winning the Premier League, they also clinched the EFL Cup and the FA Cup. In the same light, City manager Pep Guardiola hailed skipper Vincent Kompany and termed him 'special'. However, with Kompany leaving City this summer, Guardiola said it would be difficult to replace him.
Difficult to find suitable replacement for Kompany: Guardiola
Guardiola has claimed that while City possess the power to spend big money, it would still be difficult to fill in the void left by Kompany. City have gained heavily since their takeover by Sheikh Mansour, as it has allowed them to spend freely in the transfer market. As a result, they have acquired some of the big talents in the recent past.
It will be so difficult to replace Vinnie
"His spirit has been incredible. It will be so difficult to replace Vinnie. Everyone has their strengths, but Vincent is special. We will miss him. I will miss him a lot," Guardiola said about the skipper.
Guardiola credits Kompany's contributions
As Kompany prepares to end his 11-year stint at the club, the Belgian is set to travel to Anderlecht on a three-year deal as player-cum-manager. Meanwhile, Guardiola credited his contribution in the success of the club. "We tried to do it together along with all the other people to try and maintain that position and create a new history," said Guardiola.
Guardiola wishes Kompany on his future endeavors
"Of course, I wish him the very best in the next stage of his life, but he is an incredible part of this football club and will remain so forever," Guardiola concluded.
Kompany: A legend for City
It is not just about his 11-year stint with the club, but also his records prove he is indeed a legend. He has played 360 games for the club, scoring 20 goals, while he has also won 12 titles with the club. Although he has had all the domestic success at the club, the only silverware that has eluded him is the Champions League.
Kompany irreplaceable, but not the end of road for City
Judging by the above records, it is clear that Guardiola would find it difficult to replace Kompany. However, given their success and financial muscle power, the author firmly believes it won't impact their campaign in 2019/20. They would still remain a top force.
