"He's not going because it's going to be very tiring, very stressful. He had this trip to England, but the trip to Rio was very tiring and so to face another trip, with transits at several airports, wasn't possible," said Pele's spokesperson, Pepito Fornos.
Pele has been suffering from ill health
This is not the first time, Pele has been reported sick. The 77-year-old has been struggling with ill health for years now and has been hospitalized several times. Recently, he was hospitalized for kidney and prostate problems. Pele's poor health did not even let him carry the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Games.
Football's greatest of all time
Pele is widely regarded as the greatest player of all time and has scored 1,281 goals in 1,363 appearances during his 21-year long career. He is the only player to win three World Cups leading Brazil to glory in the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups. He scored 77 goals in 91 appearances for Brazil and was named FIFA's Player of the Century.
