PCB's Mohsin Naqvi to replace Jay Shah as ACC president
Mohsin Naqvi, the incumbent chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is poised to succeed Jay Shah as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president. This transition is expected to occur after an ACC meeting scheduled for October-November this year. The change in leadership aligns with the ACC's policy of rotating its presidency. Shah, who currently holds this position, will take charge as the International Cricket Council's chairman in December this year.
Naqvi's two-year term to commence in 2025
Naqvi's appointment as Shah's successor is anticipated to be announced after the ACC meetings later this year. His two-year term as president is set to begin in 2025. "When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term," a PTI source revealed. "When Jay Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over."
Shah's four-year tenure as ACC president ends
Jay Shah has served as the ACC president for four years, including a one-year extension after his initial three-year term. He was elected unopposed in August. Earlier this month, Shah was elected unopposed the ICC chairman. He will replace Greg Barclay in December. This leadership change marks a significant shift in the administration of Asian cricket.
Naqvi to oversee Asia Cup and ICC Champions Trophy
During his tenure as ACC president, Naqvi will supervise the 2025 Asia Cup in India and contribute significantly to the council's future strategies. In addition to his posts as PCB chief and ACC president, he will also be involved in conducting the impending ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025.
Naqvi's leadership journey and challenges ahead
Naqvi was elected as PCB chairman in February this year and also assumed the role of Pakistan's interior minister from March 2024. His potential appointment as ACC president would mark his third significant position within a single calendar year. However, his leadership has faced criticism following Pakistan's defeat in their 1st Test against Bangladesh and their early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup.
