Is Paul Pogba inching closer to a Real Madrid move?
Manchester United striker Paul Pogba has been in the news for wrong reasons, owing to his unimpressive performance this term. Meanwhile, he has also been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. United's failure to finish in the top-four has resulted in Pogba losing hope and as per reports, he is now willing to force a move to Madrid. Here is more.
Pogba expressed admiration for Madrid, Zidane happy to welcome him
In March, during the international break, Pogba had admitted that Real Madrid are a 'dream club for every player'. The speculation caught fire when Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane admitted that Pogba would be welcomed at Santiago Bernabeu if he decides to join. It is also being expected that Zidane would shake things up at Madrid with big transfers in the coming window.
Pogba determined to push a move to Madrid, claim sources
Pogba made his move to United from Juventus in 2016 at a then-record fee of €105 million and has a contract with them until 2021. However, according to ESPN FC, Pogba has no desire to continue at United due to their failure to seal a Champions League berth. His agent, Mino Raiola, is likely to talk to management following the conclusion of the season.
Madrid willing to acquire Pogba for €120 million
As of now, United have stated publicly that Pogba is not for sale. However, it is believed that they won't be selling him for anything less than €160 million. Meanwhile, it is being reported that Madrid are the only ones interested in him. And, they won't bid this much as they are willing to buy him for around €120 million.
Woodward still wants Pogba at United, Solskjaer not convinced
United executive chairman Ed Woodward is still believed to be in favor of Pogba. He feels the footballer can still be an instrumental part of the club's marketing plans. However, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is having second thoughts about the Frenchman. He believes that he should not have a man who does not want to be a part of the club.
Pogba's performance does not make him fit for United
While reports continue to build regarding his rumored exit, the author feels that Pogba's performance at the club under Solskjaer has been no better than that under Jose Mourinho. Moreover, his refusal to speak to French media over the fear of saying something controversial suggests he is ready to leave. Thus, considering from United's perspective, it would be ideal if they let him go.
