Legendary Buffon need to fight for his place at PSG
Former Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon, who made a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, will have to fight for a place in the starting XI. PSG have a host of keepers at their disposal including star player Kevin Trapp and last season's number one Alphonse Areola. And Buffon knows he has a task at hand if he needs to become first-choice custodian.
Several options for PSG as Tuchel has plenty to ponder
Besides the trio, PSG also have back-up options such as Sebastien Cibois and Remy Descamps. It is possible that Cibois and Descamps could both head out on loan. But new manager, Thomas Tuchel, will have plenty to think about now as he hasn't yet decided on his number one. Tuchel has stated that the three big guns are ready to fight for their places.
Buffon has a tough task ahead
PSG know that who ever starts in front of goal, they would have a shot at trophies this season. The depth is staggering and how the competition unfolds will only come to the fore once the season starts. Tuchel may be happy to have a competition between his players but the 40-year-old Buffon has a tough task ahead.
Buffon knows selection on basis of merit is crucial
Buffon spent 17 years at Juventus and won a staggering amount of trophies during this period. The World Cup winner has shown, time and again, that he is still on top of the show despite his age. The new challenge will help him be on his toes. Buffon has stated that he wants to continue hard training and get selected on basis of merit.
Our view: How things could turn out?
Tuchel could divide responsibilities. May be Areola could be the number one in Ligue 1 and Buffon could be given the chance in the Champions League. Trapp, on the other hand, has 12 days ahead to decide on his future.
