2024 Paris Olympics: Prize money of Indian medal winners
India's 2024 Paris Olympics campaign finally came to an end with wrestler Reetika Hooda's elimination on August 11. The Indian contingent, which comprised of 117 athletes, recorded six medals, including five bronze and one silver. Manu Bhaker became the first Indian female shooter with an Olympic medal, while Neeraj Chopra claimed a historic second medal. Here are the key details of prize money.
India's medalists at Paris Games
India registered its joint second-best medal haul at the Olympics, with the 2012 London Games. The nation secured a record-breaking seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. India's medalists at Paris Games: Manu Bhaker (two bronze, shooting), Sarabjot Singh (bronze, shooting), Swapnil Kusale (bronze, shooting), Team India (bronze, hockey), Neeraj Chopra (silver, men's javelin throw), and Aman Sehrawat (bronze, men's wrestling).
Manu Bhaker: Rs. 30 lakh
Shooter Manu, who entered the record books, is set to receive Rs. 30 lakh from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Manu became India's first-ever female shooter with an Olympic medal. She won another bronze medal along with Sarabjot Singh in the air pistol mixed team event. The former became India's first-ever athlete with multiple medals at an Olympics post independence.
Sarabjot Singh: Rs. 22.5 lakh
Manu's partner in the mixed team event, Sarabjot Singh will receive Rs. 22.5 lakh for his achievement by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Multiple cash prizes for Indian hockey team
The Indian men's hockey team won the bronze medal after defeating Spain 2-1. Notably, India won consecutive Olympic medals in hockey for the first time since 1972. Hockey India will reward the Indian players with Rs. 15 lakh each. The support staff members will get Rs. 7.5 lakh each. Moreover, Chief Ministers of Odisha and Punjab have also announced cash prizes for the contingent.
Swapnil Kusale: Rs. 1 crore
Swapnil Kusale bagged India's third medal (bronze) in shooting at the Paris Olympics. He became the first Indian shooter to make it to an Olympic final in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions. Kusale is set to receive a prize money of Rs. 1 crore, as announced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
