Indian contingent receives warm send-off for 2024 Paris Paralympics
The Indian Paralympics team, set to compete in the 2024 Paris Games, was given a heartfelt send-off in capital New Delhi. Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse were present at the event. Both ministers referred to the athletes as the "pride of the nation" and expressed their belief that they would inspire with their performances.
PCI president confident of record-breaking performance
The President of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), Devendra Jhajharia, expressed confidence in the team's potential. He stated that the 84-member contingent, India's largest ever for the Paralympics, is expected to bring home more than 25 medals from Paris. "We had 56 athletes in Tokyo, competing in 12 disciplines. Now we are competing in three more disciplines," Jhajharia said during the send-off ceremony.
Jhajharia advises athletes to remain focused
Jhajharia, a double Paralympic gold medalist himself, advised the athletes not to succumb to the pressure of expectations. "Don't come under pressure. You have to give your best. Once you do that, medal will be assured," he said. He also expressed confidence that India would finish among the top-20 countries in the Games.
Khadse highlights inspirational journeys of Paralympic athletes
Khadse highlighted the inspirational journeys of the athletes, including 17-year-old archer Sheetal Devi. "Your journey is very inspirational. For most of us, it is a learning experience," she said during the event. She also assured that the government is doing everything possible to support these athletes and expressed hope for more than 25 medals from this contingent.

Mandaviya praised the athletes for their resilience and determination. "You have the ability to challenge the challenge, and convert adversity into a favorable situation," he said. He also emphasized on the crucial role played by parents and early coaches in shaping these athletes' careers, crediting them for guiding their wards toward international success.
