Pant tends to get a bit ahead of himself: Klusener
Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener feels that India's Rishabh Pant tends to get a bid ahead of himself while batting. Pant has showed sparks of brilliance but the overall package is missing due to his impetuous shot selection. Ahead of the first T20I between India and SA, interim Proteas batting coach Klusener has shared his views on Pant. Here's more.
Klusener sums up Pant's inconsistency in limited-overs
Pant has an average of 22.90 in ODIs and 21.57 in T20Is. His manner of dismissals have a pattern. The youngster has all the attributes to shine, however, Pant inconsistency and impatience have been a sorry tale. "It would hard for me to pinpoint but with a phenomenal talent like that, one always tends to get a bit ahead of himself," Klusener.
Klusener has an advice for Pant
Klusener felt that Pant can do well if he gives himself time. "He needs to give himself time to get in and that bit of time will allow him to showcase his talent," said the Proteas interim batting coach.
Rishabh Pant needs to pounce on the opportunity against SA
This series is another opportunity for someone like Rishabh Pant to show his credentials. The youngster hasn't quite lived up to expectations in limited-overs cricket in general. He amassed scores of 0, 4 and 65* against West Indies last month in the T20Is. Pant needs to be more thoughtful and make things count while being aggressive at the same time.
'India should try and get him to contribute more'
"It's wonderful to have the talent like Rishabh in the twilight years of MS Dhoni's career. From an Indian point of view, maybe they should try and get him to contribute more," added Klusener. "He has some wonderful coaches and players around him so take their advice but at the same time don't curb your natural talent."
Schedule and timing of the T20I series
The three T20Is between India and SA will be played in Dharamsala (September 15), Mohali (September 18) and Bengaluru (September 22) respectively. All three matches will start at 7:00 PM respectively. The matches will be telecast live on the Star Sports Network.
