Nathan Lyon goes past these two Aussie legends
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon showed, yet again, why he is one of the best spinners in world cricketer. The off-spinner has been a terrific ambassador for Australia since Shane Warne. And against Pakistan in the ongoing second Test, Lyon took 4 wickets in a space of 6 balls. With this, he surpassed two legends in terms of the number of Test wickets for Australia.
Lyon's magic sees Pakistan's middle order get wiped out
Lyon was terrific against Pakistan on Day One of the second and final Test being held in Dubai. He removed Azhar Ali (15) with a caught and bowled effort. Then the madness started. Haris Sohail (0) departed first ball after coming to the crease. Asad Shafiq (0) was dismissed two balls later. And Babar Azam (0) too fell against Lyon after being bowled.
Lyon surpasses Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson
Lyon is now the fourth highest wicket-taker for Australia in Tests. He started the day being tied with former Aussie speedster Brett Lee (310 wickets). After picking 4 wickets, he went past Mitchell Johnson (313) as well. Both the former Aussie stars were considered as legends of Australian cricket. Lyon will eye another legend's record- Dennis Lillee, who has 355 scalps.
Lyon likely to finish as Australia's third highest wicket-taker
Lyon is likely to surpass Lillee next and could end as Australia's 3rd highest wicket-taker ever in the game. Shane Warne (708) and Glenn McGrath (563) are the top wicket-takers in Tests for Australia. Lyon is also the 8th highest wicket-taker among spinners in Tests. India's spin ace R Ashwin (336) is above him on 7th. Both are likely to surpass Daniel Vettori (362).
Lyon has impressed in 2018
Lyon has had an excellent campaign in 2018. Currently, he has 28 wickets to his name this year and is tied alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Morne Morkel. Kagiso Rabada has the most scalps (46).
