Pakistan likely to field pace-heavy attack in 1st Bangladesh Test
Pakistan are set to host Bangladesh in the first Test of their upcoming two-match series, from August 21-25 in Rawalpindi. Due to predicted rainy and overcast conditions, the hosts are reportedly planning to field four pacers in the opener. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted varying intensities of rain throughout the five-day game. This weather prediction is influencing the team's selection decisions.
Pakistan's pace attack to feature Afridi, Shah, Hamza, Shehzad
The Pakistan team is expected to field a quartet of pacers for the first Test against Bangladesh. This includes Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mir Hamza, and Khurram Shehzad. All-rounder Salman Ali Agha will likely be the sole spinner in the lineup. As per PTI, the decision to favor pace over spin is a strategic response to the anticipated weather conditions during the match.
Abrar's participation uncertain due to weather conditions
The weather conditions may also impact the participation of Abrar Ahmed, the team's lone specialist spinner. A source close to the selectors stated that it is unlikely Ahmed would get a chance to play because of the weather. This decision is further influenced by Bangladesh A's performance in a four-day match in Islamabad, where they struggled on a pitch favoring pace bowlers.
Pakistan Shaheens's match against Bangladesh A ends in draw
The four-day 'unofficial' Test between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh A ended in a draw due to inclement weather. Bangladesh A were dismissed for 122 in their first innings, conceding a lead of 245 runs. In their second attempt, they stood at 153/5 when the game was called off. The third day's play, featuring eight Pakistan Test players, was completely washed out due to rain.
Huraira's Test debut under consideration
The team management is also considering whether to give young opening batter Muhammad Huraira his Test debut in the upcoming match. Huraira has been performing well recently, scoring a double century for the Pakistan Shaheens in a First-Class game against Bangladesh A in Darwin, Australia, last month. His potential inclusion could add strength to Pakistan's batting lineup against Bangladesh.
