Lahore Qalandars win PSL 2022: Decoding the major numbers
Lahore Qalandars downed Multan Sultans by 42 runs to lift their maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 title on Sunday. Batting first, Qalandars posted a respectable total of 180/5 in 20 overs, courtesy of Mohammad Hafeez's blistering 69 and Harry Brook's quickfire 41*. In reply, they bundled out Sultans for 138 in 19.3 overs. Shaheen Afridi picked three wickets. Here we decode key numbers.
Lahore Qalandars lift maiden PSL title
Shaheen guided Lahore Qalandars to their maiden first PSL trophy. It was only their second final appearance in PSL, having finished the runners-up in 2020. They have finished at the fifth spot on three occasions (2016, 2017, and 2021). In 2018 and 2019, Qalandars finished at the sixth spot. Meanwhile, it was Sultans' second final appearance. They lifted their maiden title in 2021.
Fakhar Zaman leads the run-scoring chart
Lahore Qalandars' Fakhar Zaman finished PSL 2022 as the leading run-getter. He scored 588 runs in 13 games while maintaining a strike rate of 152.72. He averaged 45.23 in the latest edition of PSL. Zaman is followed by Sultans' Mohammad Rizwan (546 runs), Shan Masood (478 runs), and Shoaib Malik's 401 runs. Alex Hales scored 355 runs in nine games for Islamabad United.
Shaheen finished as leading wicket-taker
Shaheen Afridi finished PSL 2022 as the highest wicket-taker. He picked 20 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 19.70. Islamabad United's Shadab Khan picked 19 wickets in nine games at 10.89. He bagged two four-wicket and one five-wicket haul in the tournament. He is followed by Zaman Khan (18 wickets) of Lahore Qalandars and Shahnawaz Dahani of Sultans (17 wickets).
Jason Roy registered the highest score of the season
Jason Roy (116 runs off 57 balls) hammered the highest individual score of the season for Gladiators vs Qalandars on February 7. This is also the fourth-highest individual score in the history of the league. Qalandars' Zaman recorded the second-biggest individual total in PSL 2021-22 (106 runs) against Kings. He is followed by Qalandars' Brook (102* runs versus United).
