#PAKvNZ: Yasir Shah eclipses 82-year-old record in Test cricket
Pakistan cricket team leg-spinner Yasir Shah has been in supreme form with the ball since he came back to the side in October. After a positive show in the Test series victory against Australia in the UAE, Shah has continued his rich form against New Zealand as well. And his flurry of wickets has helped him eclipse a 82-year-old record. Here's more.
Yasir the fastest to 200 Test wickets
The ace spinner became the fastest bowler to pick up 200 Test wickets. With this, he broke the 82-year-old record of champion Australian leg-spinner, Clarrie Grimmett. Yasir removed Kiwi player, Will Somerville early on day four of the ongoing third Test in Abu Dhabi, which was his 200th career Test wicket in 33 matches.
The magician!
A special moment for Yasir Shah
Earlier, Grimmett had scripted the record in February 1936 against South Africa. He had picked his 200th wicket in his 36th match. The feat stood for more than eight decades before Shah came into the thick of things. Yasir made his debut for Pakistan in 2014 against Australia and getting to the record in a span of four years is quite remarkable.
Yasir has 27 wickets in the ongoing Test series
Yasir has been in supreme form in this ongoing three-match series. He picked eight scalps in the first Test and followed that up with 14 wickets in the second. In the ongoing third Test, Yasir got figures of 3/75 in the first innings. He has picked 27 wickets in this series already and could play a decisive role as the match progresses.
Yasir cashing in on amazing form
His match figures of 14-184 in the second Test saw him record the second-best feat ever for Pakistan. Former skipper Imran Khan's 14-116 against Sri Lanka in 1982 is the best figure in Tests for Pakistan. Yasir has picked 35 Test scalps in 2018 to show his value for Pakistan. The 32-year-old also joined an illustrious list of spinners to take 200+ Test scalps.
