Pakistan could play Day-Night Test against Bangladesh: Details here
Hosts Pakistan came up with a commendable performance in the opening Test to tame visitors Bangladesh by an innings and 44 runs, on Monday. With a couple of more months to go for the second Test, owing to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) commencing soon, the Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed to Bangladesh to play a Day-Night Test. Here is more.
How did the first Test pan out?
After inviting Bangladesh to bat first, the visitors were bundled out for 233, courtesy Shaheen Shah Afridi's 4/53, while Mohammad Mithun scored 63. Meanwhile, Pakistan scored 445, owing to twin centuries from Shan Masood (100) and Babar Azam (143). Trailing by 212, Bangladesh were once again bowled out for 168, as Naseem Shah's 4/26 (including a hat-trick) and Yasir Shah's 4/58 did the damage.
PCB awaiting BCB's response on D/N Test
Meanwhile, the Pakistani board's CEO Wasim Khan has said that a proposal has been sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a D/N Karachi Test, as their response is awaited. "With Test cricket returning to Pakistan now and many countries also going towards Day-Night Tests, we want to give our players maximum exposure and also want to host pink ball matches," he said.
PCB looking to play Test against South Africa at home
"South Africa ends its tour of India on 18th March while the [Pakistan Super League] ends on 22nd March. So, we are looking at pencilling in the first match on, say, 24th March," added Wasim Khan.
Bangladesh played their maiden Day-Night Test against India in November
It is to be noted that Bangladesh recently played their maiden Day-Night Test against India in November at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Although they ended up losing the match within three days, the Bangladesh players and officials were satisfied and expressed their desire to play more D/N Tests in the future. If confirmed, this would be Bangladesh's second D/N Test.
Pakistan have played four D/N Tests already
As for Pakistan, they have already played four D/N Tests. They played their maiden against the Windies in Dubai, in 2016, which they had won. Since then, they have played three more, with a couple being away encounters, while they have lost each of them. Their last encounter was against Australia in November 2019, in Adelaide.
