Lahore Test: Australia bowled out; Pakistan finish on 90/1
Australia were bowled out for 391 on Day 2 of the 3rd Test against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. They let go of their advantage gained on the opening day. How did Day 2 pan out?
Australia resumed from their overnight score of 232/5 on Day 2. Green and Carey added another 109 runs before Nauman Ali dismissed the latter. Green also missed out on his century (79). The Aussies faced a lower-order collapse thereafter. Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah snapped up four wickets apiece. Pakistan then compiled 90/1 at stumps, with Abdullah Shafique and Azhar Ali adding 70 runs.
A crucial stand for Australia
Australian batters Carey and Green shared a crucial stand in the first innings. They rescued the visitors with a 135-run partnership, after they were reduced to 206/5. Green slammed his fourth half-century in Test cricket. Meanwhile, Carey went on to register his third Test fifty.
Shaheen and Naseem shone with the ball
Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi made early inroads in the Australian batting line-up on the opening day. He went on to take two more wickets on Day 2. Naseem Shah made the most of the reverse swing later in the innings. Like Shaheen, the youngster finished with four wickets. Meanwhile, Sajid Khan and Nauman Ali chipped in with a wicket each.
Khawaja had slammed his 16th half-century on Day 1
Khawaja, who registered a record-breaking 160 in the Karachi Test, maintained his dominance in Lahore. He scored 91 off 219 balls with the help of 9 fours and 1 six. It was his 16th half-century in Test cricket. Khawaja missed his 12th Test century by nine runs. The left-handed batter now averages a staggering 88.80 against Pakistan in eight Tests.
