India not ready to host Olympics yet says Abhinav Bindra
Abhinav Bindra, known for his sharp insights on sports development and management, said that India is not yet ready to host the Olympics as we do not have the right set up for it. The only individual Olympic Gold medallist from India also said that while the quadrennial event helps in developing infrastructure, that can also be done without hosting it.
"Think of hosting when we can win 40 gold medals"
Bindra, who retired from his shooting career after the 2016 Olympics, said priority should be on nurturing our athletes. "We need to invest in our youth...our athletes, that should be the priority and then when we are in a position to realistically win at least 40 gold medals in the Olympic Games...that would be the right moment to host an Olympic Games."
'India a confused society about sports', Bindra
Talking about our society's outlook towards sports Bindra said, "I think we are a confused society...every Olympics years we want a bunch of gold medals to somehow come in and then we forget about it. If we think sport is something that can portray India in a positive way at global stage, then we should invest in it for longer term and be patient."
