Proteas call up Olivier and Morris to fill Rabada-shaped void
Kagiso Rabada's suspension has put South Africa in deep trouble, forcing the Proteas to call for reinforcements for the third Test against Australia. Seamer Duanne Olivier and all-rounder Chris Morris have been added in the squad. However, veteran pacer Dale Steyn's return looks unlikely, as the speedster is yet to recover from his injury.
South Africa have plenty of options to replace Rabada
South Africa can replace Rabada with Olivier, Morris, uncapped Wiaan Mulder or Morne Morkel. The Newlands pitch is going to make a huge difference in selecting which of these bowlers would be best suited for the conditions on offer. Considering Oliver and Morris haven't played international cricket in a while, Morkel should get the nod.
Rabada's appeal to be heard on Monday
The top-ranked Test bowler's absence would definitely be a huge miss for the Proteas. However, he could still play the 3rd Test, if he succeeds in his appeal against ICC's decision to award him 3 demerit points. Rabada's appeal will be heard on Monday and should he succeed, he will be free to compete in the next two Tests.
