India Women to tour New Zealand next year: Details here
India Women will tour New Zealand in February 2022 to play a six-match bilateral series comprising a T20I and five ODIs. The two teams will then ply their trade in the Women's ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in New Zealand in March-April. Notably, the white-ball leg will a lead up to the 50-over ICC tournament. Why does the story matter?
India Women and New Zealand Women last faced each other in a bilateral series in 2019 (January-February). India won the ODI series 2-1, while New Zealand beat India 3-0 in T20Is. The upcoming six-match white-ball series will be the first for both teams in 2022. Notably, the two sides will take part in the rescheduled ODI World Cup and the Commonwealth Games next year.
A look at the schedule
The tour will kick-off on February 9 with the one-off T20I at McLean Park, Napier. This venue will also host the first ODI (Day/Night) two days later. The next two ODIs will be held at the Saxton Oval, Nelson (February 14 and 16). Besides, the John Davies Oval in Queenstown will host the final two ODIs (February 22 and 24).
India Women last played in Australia
India Women last toured Australia in September-October this year. The Aussies won the ODI (2-1) and T20I series (2-0), while the one-off pink-ball Test was drawn. Notwithstanding, India had the upper hand in the Test. On the other hand, New Zealand Women last played in September. They toured England, losing the T20I series 1-2 and ODI series 1-4.
New Zealand's summer schedule (men's)
As far as the schedule of men's side is concerned, their summer will begin with the two-Test series against Bangladesh in January. New Zealand will then tour Australia for three ODIs and one T20I (January-February). The two sides will also engage in a three-T20I series in New Zealand a month later. Between February and April, New Zealand will host South Africa and the Netherlands.
