Novak Djokovic backs Australian Open to be delayed: Here's why
Bushfires have rattled Australia as the country has raised a red alert, while the situation has reached an alarming level. Meanwhile, the nation is set to host the opening Tennis Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open, this month. However, defending champion Novak Djokovic feels that if circumstances require, organizers should postpone the tournament until the situation returns to normalcy.
Djokovic feels postponement is a fair, but last option
Speaking on the issue, Djokovic said in case the situation is extreme and gets out of hands, it is an option that has to be considered, but it should be the last option. "I mean, and I understand why, but if it comes down to those conditions affecting the health of players, I think we should definitely consider it," he said, reports AFP.

"If it continues the same way and if the quality of air is affected, I think Tennis Australia probably will be forced to, I think, create some rules about it. But, health is a concern for me and for anybody," added Djokovic.
Australia suffering one of the worst bushfires in recent past
The blazes in Australia have claimed 24 lives, besides forcing mass evacuations. Meanwhile, military ships and helicopters began rescuing thousands of holidaymakers trapped by the blazes. Reports claim more than 200 fires are burning across the south-eastern states of New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria, threatening several towns. The NSW state government declared a state of emergency, beginning on Friday.
Chris Lynn, Nick Kyrgios to donate money to bushfire victims
Meanwhile, Australian cricketer Chris Lynn, along with Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, have pledged to donate money to the victims of the devastating bushfire. Lynn is donating $250 towards the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal for every six he hits in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). As for Kyrgios, he is donating $200 for every ace he serves during the Australian tennis season.
