Shane Warne's autobiography: Controversies that should be addressed
Shane Warne is, undoubtedly, one of the best spinners in cricket history. To be named among the best five cricketers of the 20th century, by Wisden, is no mean feat. However, Warne's life is one filled with controversies. The leg-spinner is coming out with a new autobiography 'No Spin' in October. Here are four issues which he should address in his book.
Warne's dealings with a bookie
During the 1994 Australia's tour of Sri Lanka, fans witnessed a major shock when Shane Warne and Mark Waugh were accused of revealing information to a bookie. The two cricketers were accused of divulging information regarding weather and pitch conditions. Both cricketers were heavily fined by the board for this shameful act. Cricket enthusiasts would surely want to know Warne's take on the incident.
Banned substance controversy which halted his career
Prior to 2003 World Cup, which Australia went on to win, Warne was tested positive for a banned substance. This saw him receiving a ban from cricket for a year. Warne was tested positive for a diuretic-a weight reducing drug. This is one of the most prominent controversies of his career. As fans, we would want to learn what was going in his mind.
His numerous sex-related controversies over the years
Warne, on numerous occasions, was charged with sexual inappropriateness and these issues should be addressed. He had allegedly sent sexually explicit messages to a British nurse and had asked another British woman to take part in a foursome that reportedly included Kevin Pietersen. His wife left him due to his extra-marital affairs and in 2017 he was accused of assaulting porn star Valerie Fox.
Warne's problems with Waugh and Ponting
Ever since he was dropped for the third Test during 1999 tour of West Indies, Warne has shared a not-so-friendly relationship with him. He even said that the former Australian captain was the most selfish cricketer he ever played with. Warne had also said that Ricky Ponting was jealous of Michael Clarke. His feelings on the two legends would be a delight to read.
