No salaries for players if IPL gets called-off: BCCI official
The players who were signed up for the upcoming IPL edition, may be deprived of the salaries if season gets redundant. A senior official revealed that no player will be paid as per the BCCI guidelines. Meanwhile, the BCCI is aiming for the window of October-November to organize the IPL. Earlier, India's cash-rich league was postponed from March 29 to April 15.
An official explains the salary distribution system
"The system of IPL payments is that 15 percent is paid a week before the tournament starts. 65 percent more is paid during the tournament. The remaining 20 percent is paid within a stipulated time after the tournament ends," he told PTI.
Massive losses may result in pay cuts
The Indian Cricketers' Association president Ashok Malhotra believes quite a few domestic cricketers may have to accept the pay cuts with huge amount of losses. However, the BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal revealed that pay cuts haven't been a part of discussion as yet. "There has been no discussion at all on pay cuts. It's very difficult to do calculations and estimate losses," he said.
IPL 2020 could be moved to October-November
According to a source, the BCCI is planning to push the upcoming IPL edition to October-November. Although there have been talks regarding this move, the postponement of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 could only make it possible. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 18. However, no conclusion has been drawn yet regarding the matter.
No insurance money for the salaries
Another franchise official informed that the salaries of the players are not insured for a pandemic. A dew days ago, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was also unsure about the insurance. "We won't get any money from insurance company as pandemic is not covered in the clause," the official said. He added, "Each franchise has salary overheads ranging between Rs. 75 to 85 crore."
