Chargesheet to be filed against the coach of Hima Das
This month, Nipon Das was being hailed as a hero after his pupil, Hima Das, became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in an international track event. But after all the attention and buzz, Nipon finds himself in a spot of bother. A woman athlete has accused him of sexual assault. And now, Guwahati Police is preparing a chargesheet against him.
Guwahati police awaiting medical report
It came to light on Saturday that the Guwahati Police is filing a chargesheet against Das under Sections 342, 354, 376, 511 and 506. The female SAI athlete had filed an FIR accusing of sexual assault. As per reports, the DSP of Basistha police station stated that they are waiting for a medical report and once it comes, a chargesheet will be filed accordingly.
Nipon brushes off allegations made by the athlete
Nipon was arrested on Saturday post the assault claims under Section 376, but was given a bail soon after. He has accused the girl of trying to frame him. He stated that the athlete was jealous of Hima and not getting through the 58th National Inter State Athletics Championship in Guwahati made her angry. Nipon is willing to go to jail, if found guilty.

Besides the probe being carried out by Assam police, the State Commission for Women is conducting a separate investigation, as well. The girl stated that Nipon had sexually assaulted her on May 18, this year, at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. The complaint was filed on June 22. She is currently preparing for the National Aquathlon Championship to be held next week.
