Neymar to reject Barcelona transfer and remain at PSG?
It was widely speculated that Brazilian forward Neymar was not happy at his current club, Paris Saint-Germain, and could move back to Barcelona, the club where he started his European career. After forming one of the most lethal attacking partnerships with Messi and Suarez at Barcelona, Neymar made a move to the French capital for a world record £198 million. Could he move back?
Barcelona reportedly had some conditions for the transfer
Reportedly, if Neymar moves back to Barcelona, he will not earn as much as he does at PSG. Further, PSG would also have to be given a hefty sum as compensation because their world record transfer fee, shelled out for the Brazilian, surely did not produce enough returns. Barcelona reportedly wanted to give PSG Dembele or Rakitic in the rumored exchange deal.
Why the sudden change of plan?
Despite rumored links to Barcelona, speculations of Neymar staying on at Paris arose when he renewed his deal with the Qatar National Bank a few days back. Yet, the Brazilian maverick reportedly has a clause in his contract which will enable Barca to buy him back in 2020 summer for £193 million. Neymar might have decided to wait out the period. Or not.
Neymar wanted to move because of Kylian Mbappe?
After his brilliant performance in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mbappe had become PSG's wonderkid whom everybody was talking about. This was believed to have irked Neymar as he had allegedly left Barcelona to escape from Messi's shadow. However, the chemistry between Mbappe and Neymar on the field has proven these rumors to be baseless. They seem to be quite close off-field as well.
How has Neymar been performing with PSG?
Neymar has developed a solid attacking trio with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe at PSG, destroying opponents in the Ligue 1. They have also managed to qualify to the round of 16 of the Champions League as group toppers. He has scored 16 goals in 19 appearances for PSG this season, also providing eight assists. Given the success he's enjoying, he might just stay.
