Brazilian superstar Neymar had a forgettable campaign with his national team at the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. Brazil made a quarter-final exit and Neymar's play-acting, throughout the tourney, made constant headlines. But since then, the player has been away from the sport and is enjoying his time off. So what has he been upto?
Neymar tries his hands at poker
The Paris Saint-Germain player, recently, tried his hands at poker and it paid off well. In the 288-strong field, Neymar finished an impressive sixth. As per reports, the former Barcelona player turned his R$7,000 ($1,877) entry stake into R$79,440 ($21,308) before being eliminated at the Brazilian Series of Poker event. He stated that he is happy and the experience was enriching.
How did Neymar perform?
Neymar entered the competition with five of his other friends. He was the only player amongst them to have survived and make it through to the second day. Betting on two consecutive losing hands saw him being eliminated after nearly four hours of play. There was a final table of nine players where Neymar ended at 6th.
Poker a relaxation source for Brazilian players
In recent years, poker has become a source of relaxation away from the football pitch for Brazilian footballers. Besides Neymar, Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus and former PSG forward Nene also competed in the Brazilian Series of Poker competitions in the past, this week.
