5th ODI: England hammer Kiwis, here're records broken
England rose to prominence as they overcame hosts New Zealand in the fifth and final ODI to bag the series 3-2. Eoin Morgan's side beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the decider after the series was tied at 2-2. New Zealand were bundled out for 223, before England scripted a stellar chase. Here are the records that were broken in the match.
Bairstow's ton sweeps away Kiwis
England opener Jonny Bairstow slammed a superb ton to make light-work of the chase. He showed his big hitting skills to notch a whirlwind century to hand the Kiwis a deafening blow. The player added 155 runs for the first wicket with Alex Hales in just 20.2 overs. After his dismissal, Hales scripted a fifty before Joe Root and Ben Stokes saw them home.
In-form Bairstow makes the bat talk
This was Bairstow's fourth ODI ton and a second against New Zealand. His 100 off 58 deliveries, was the third quickest for England in ODIs. It was the quickest ton by an English opener. This was his 2nd hundred on the trot after he smashed 138 in the fourth ODI. The player amassed 302 runs at an average of 60.40 in this series.
England on a roll in ODIs
This was England's sixth successive ODI series victory. They had earlier beaten Australia 4-1 in 2018. England had also won their last ODI series against New Zealand by a similar 3-2 margin in 2015.
Taylor-less NZ fail to get off the mark
Ross Taylor-less New Zealand were tottering at 93/6 after the English bowlers got regular wickets. Mitchell Santner scored another defiant fifty alongside Henry Nicholls as the duo added a 84-run stand for the seven wicket. Santner (67) helped them to get past the 200-run mark. For England Chris Woakes picked 3/35 in 10 overs that did not contain a single boundary.
