4th ODI: Kiwis chase down 336 runs, here're records broken
New Zealand defeated England by five wickets in the fourth match of ongoing ODI series. The Kiwis chased down a mammoth 336-run target with veteran Ross Taylor slamming an unbeaten ton. England made 335/9 in 50 overs after Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root slammed centuries. The hosts chased down the target in 49.3 overs. Here are the records that were broken in the match.
Ross Taylor in supreme mode
Kiwi batsman Ross Taylor ensured his side crossed the line in an epic run-chase against England in Dunedin. Taylor, who would turn 34 tomorrow, smashed 181* runs to propel his side to victory. New Zealand got off to a terrible start and were reeling at 2/2 before Taylor stitched two crucial partnerships. His 187-run stand with Latham (71) was the highlight of the chase.
Ross Taylor sets big milestones
Ross Taylor struck his career best ODI score with an unbeaten 181. This was his 19th ODI ton and his 2nd ton in 2018. He also became the 2nd highest run getter (7,267) for New Zealand in ODIs. He surpassed Nathan Astle (7,090). He is only behind Stephen Fleming. His 181* is the 3rd highest score by a Kiwi batsman.
Another top ODI chase
This was the ninth highest chase in ODIs. New Zealand scripted their 3rd highest run chase in the format. Their previous best of 350/9 and 340/5 both came against Australia. This was their 21st highest score in history of ODI cricket.
England ride on Bairstow, Root heroics
England posted a stiff 335/9 in 50 overs courtesy of Bairstow and Root's dual tons. Bairstow slammed his 3rd ODI ton of his career with a superb 138. This was his first ton against New Zealand. Joe Root mustered his 11th ODI ton on his way to 102. The duo shared a 190-run partnership for the 2nd wicket which is 5th highest for England.
