NZ vs India, 1st Test: Records that can be scripted
New Zealand and India are all set to battle it out for a two-match Test series, starting Friday. The first Test is set to be held in Wellington. The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship. India will be aiming to maintain their 100% record so far. Here we look at the records that can be scripted in the first Test.
Kohli can surpass these legends in Test cricket
Indian captain Virat Kohli has registered 7,202 career Test runs. The 31-year-old is in line to surpass several legends in terms of Test runs including Sourav Ganguly (7,212), Chris Gayle (7,214), Steve Smith (7,244) and David Warner (7,249). Kohli has 27 Test tons at an average of 54.97. One more will see him equal the likes of Hashim Amla and Michael Clarke (28 each).
Williamson can be New Zealand's third-highest run-scorer in Tests
Kane Williamson has 6,379 career Test runs under his belt. The Kiwi skipper needs another 75 runs to surpass Brendon McCullum (6,453). Williamson also needs 121 runs to register the mark of 6,500 in Tests. If he achieves the same, then the player will become only the third Kiwi to achieve the mark after Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming.
Taylor and Pujara can amass these Test feats
Ross Taylor has 19 career Test tons. The veteran needs a ton to equal the likes of Mark Waugh, Graham Gooch and Aravinda de Silva in terms of Test centuries. India's Cheteshwar Pujara (5,762) can surpass the likes of Carl Hooper (5,762), Naseer Hossain (5,764) and Saleem Malik (5,768) in terms of career Test runs.
Ashwin, Boult and Ishant can script these numbers
India's premier off-spinner R Ashwin is tied with Imran Khan in terms of career Test scalps (362). The senior bowler can get past Khan with another scalp. Trent Boult (256 wickets) can surpass the likes of Jason Gillespie (259), Joe Garner (259) and Danish Kaneria (261) in terms of career Test wickets. Indian pacer Ishant Sharma (292) can go past Jacques Kallis (also 292).
