3rd ODI, New Zealand beat India: List of records broken
New Zealand beat India in the third and final ODI to seal the three-match series 3-0. The Kiwis mastered the 297-run chase at the Bay Oval on Tuesday. India managed 296/7 in 50 overs after KL Rahul slammed a century. New Zealand responded well and chased down the target. Here are the records broken in this encounter.
In-form Rahul emulates Dravid's 21-year-old feat
Rahul (112) notched his fourth career ODI century. Rahul has raced to 1,239 career ODI runs. He surpassed the likes of Harbhajan Singh (1,213) and Nayan Mongia (1,230) in this process. Rahul became the first Indian wicket-keeper to hit a century outside Asia after Rahul Dravid's effort in the 1999 World Cup against Sri Lanka. Dravid had scored 135 and also kept wickets.
Another impressive feat achieve by Rahul
Rahul notched his third 80+ score batting at number five in four ODI innings this year. There were no such scores by India number five batsmen in three years prior to this. The last three 80-plus scores notched by Indian batsmen at number five was notched by, MS Dhoni (134 v Eng, 2017), Dhoni (92* v SA, 2015) and Raina (110* v Zim, 2015).
Iyer and Rahul achieve this partnership record
Shreyas Iyer (62) and Rahul became the second Indian pair (number four and five) to notch two century-plus stands in an ODI series. The last pair to achieve the feat was Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni (versus Pakistan, 2007). Iyer slammed his eighth career ODI fifty.
Iyer surpasses Ian Chappell with this record
Iyer has scripted the record for best percentage of 50+ scores in ODIs (minimum 10 innings). The right-handed batsman has nine 50+ scores in 16 innings in ODI cricket and his percentage reads 56.25. Earlier, the record was held by Chappell, who had eight 50+ scores in 16 innings. Chappell had a percentage of 50 with eight fifties under his belt.
Martin Guptill smashes a host of records
Martin Guptill (66) scored his 37th career ODI fifty. He raced to 6,803 career ODI runs. Guptill, who smashed four sixes on Tuesday, now has a mark of 175 under his belt. He raced past 900 ODI runs against India (925) and became only fourth Kiwi batsman to do so. This was his sixth career ODI fifty against India.
Nicholls registers 11th career ODI fifty
Henry Nicholls (80) surpassed 1,300 career ODI runs (1,319). He amassed his 11th career ODI fifty. The batsman also notched his second fifty against India in the 50-over format.
How did the match pan out?
India got off to a poor start and were reeling at 62/3 at one stage. Iyer and Rahul got together and added a 100-run stand for the fourth wicket. After Iyer's dismissal, Rahul got company from Manish Pandey. The two added a 107-run stand next to help India. In reply, New Zealand were off to a flier. India hit back, however, it wasn't enough.
