World Cup: On-camera kiss attempt angers reporter, and rightly so
A Brazilian reporter fought back after a football fan tried to kiss her while she was on-air. Julia Guimaraes was in Yekaterinburg, and was reporting on the Japan versus Senegal match. That's when a man approached towards her and tried to force a kiss. The woman dodged the kiss and shot back at the man. This was the 2nd such incident in 2018 WC.
Watch: How the incident unfolded
'Don't do this! Never do this again'
The reporter shouted at the man after dodging his kiss. "Don't do this! Never do this again," she said. The man was heard apologizing in the video. She then added that his attempt was neither right nor polite. She admonished him saying he should never do this to a woman and asked him to show respect. One really wonders what the man was thinking.
Guimaraes left to feel awful and vulnerable
Julia Guimaraes has said that she has faced similar incidents twice in Russia. It made her feel awful, vulnerable and helpless. She said that it's sad that people keep doing this, thinking it's sort of right. She was harassed in the opening game too.
Earlier, Colombian female reporter groped, kissed on air
Disgusting as the incident is, this is not the first time it has happened. Just last week, a Colombian female reporter, Julieth Gonzalez Theran was kissed and groped on air by a fan. She was brave enough to continue with the live report and then came online to address the incident. The incident happened prior to the game between Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Is live reporting by females safe anymore?
In March 2018, around 52 Brazilian reporters launched a campaign where they showcased incidents of being kissed and groped by fans and athletes, while they were working. In 2017, tennis player Maxime Hamou was banned from participating at the Roland Garros after forcibly kissing a female reporter. It is a shame that these incidents keep happening, often leaving women in a state of shock.
