Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic champion and renowned javelin thrower, has extended his best wishes to the Indian team participating in the 2024 World Under-20 Athletics Championships. The event is set to take place in Lima, Peru between August 28 and 31. "Good luck to all the Indian athletes taking part at World U20 Athletics Championships," Chopra wrote on X. Chopra's triumphant journey began at U20 Championships
Chopra's own journey in athletics began at the age of 18 when he participated in the 2016 Under-20 World Championships. He became the first Indian to clinch the gold medal at this event. Chopra set a javelin throw world record (juniors) with a throw of 86.48m, a record yet to be broken. His athletic career started at 13 when he joined a local sports group.
India's robust representation at World U20 Championships
As it stands, India is sending a strong team of 43 athletes to the World Under-20 Athletics Championships. The team includes 23 men and 20 women, who will be competing in various events including the 4x400 mixed relay event. Among them is Dipanshu Sharma, the reigning Asian Under-20 champion in men's javelin throw. This robust representation follows India's impressive performance at the Asian U-20 Athletics Championships held in Dubai earlier this year, where they bagged seven gold medals.
