Chopra demonstrated his prowess at the Lausanne Diamond League with a remarkable throw of 89.49m, securing second place. He replicated this success in Doha, where he recorded a throw of 88.36m. These performances have solidified his position as one of the top contenders in men's javelin throw at the upcoming Diamond League season finale.
Sable to participate in men's 3000m steeplechase event
Asian Games gold medalist Sable will represent India at the Diamond League season finale, competing in the men's 3000m steeplechase event. This announcement comes after his recent participation at the Silesia Diamond League 2024 in Poland, where he finished 14th. Avinash became the first Indian to qualify for the finals of the 3000m steeplechase at Paris 2024, where he finished 11th clocking 8:14.18.

Chopra secured fourth place in the Diamond League standings with 14 points, earning his spot in this week's final. He skipped the Zurich Diamond League last week after virtually confirming his place in the final. Following his 11th-place finish in Paris, Avinash competed in the Silesia Diamond League in August, finishing 14th with a time of 8:29.96. In the steeplechase standings for the Diamond League, Sable is 14th in the list with just three points.
Chopra eyeing another Diamond League medal
In August 2022, Chopra scripted history by winning the gold medal at the Diamond League, held in Lausanne. He clocked a monster 89.08m throw. In 2023, Chopra won the Doha Diamond League with a world-leading effort of 88.67m on his first attempt at the Qatar Sports Club. Meanwhile, Chopra has now gained qualification for the Diamond League final in Brussels and could be in line for a third medal in the event.
Chopra bagged silver medal in 2024 Paris
Chopra had earlier won the silver medal in men's javelin throw final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Chopra came into the 2024 Paris Olympics on the back of a gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem made history with a record throw of 92.97m. Meanwhile, Anderson won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54m.

The entry list features several top candidates, including reigning Diamond League champion Jakub Vadlejch. Andersen Peters of Grenada and Julian Weber of Germany are strong contenders for the medal as well. Chopra will have his task cut out.
