Nathan Lyon: The reason behind Australia's win in second test
Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon picked up 13 wickets in the team's victory over hosts Bangladesh in the 2nd Test, leading to a draw of the two-match test series. With his career best figures of 13/154, Lyon also set a record for best bowling figures by an Australian in Asia. Here are few other milestones set by the bowler during the test against Bangladesh.
Most wickets in this calendar year
With 46 wickets in 7 tests, he holds the current record for most wickets in 2017, going past Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who have 44 wickets each, in 8 and 7 tests respectively.
22-wicket haul in the series
Having taken 22 wickets in the 2-match series, he is second only to Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath (23) for most wickets in a two-match test series, and joint-second alongside Muttiah Muralitharan. He also had three 5-wicket hauls in successive innings during the series. Shane Warne was the last Australian to achieve this in 2004 against Sri Lanka, where he had 4 consecutive 5-fers.
Most wickets in 2-match series outside home
His 22 wicket record means he has most wickets in a 2-match Test series outside home, followed by England's Johnny Briggs and Irfan Pathan, with 21 wickets each.
Two 10-wicket hauls
In the Bangladesh test tour, Lyon recorded his first ten-for in Asia. His two 10-wicket hauls in tests is a first for an Australian off-spinner in 110 years, making him the third only such achiever from his country. He is also first Australian spinner to become the man of the series in test cricket, after Shane Warne in 2005 Ashes series.
13 wickets by a visiting bowler in Asia
Lyon is the only other visiting bowler apart from Ian Botham to take 13 wickets in a Test in Asia. He also has second-most wickets in a calendar year in Asia by a visiting player, 41 in 6 Tests, after Graeme Swann's 49.
