US Open 2024: Players pocket prize money despite first-round exit
The US Open 2024 has witnessed some surprising early exits. Despite their first-round losses, players like Sumit Nagal, Emma Raducanu, Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens, and Bianca Andreescu will still walk away with substantial prize money. This year's tournament boasts a record-breaking prize pool of $75 million. This amount is higher than what is offered at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon.
Sumit Nagal's disappointing US Open Journey
India's Nagal, lost to Tallon Griekspoor 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the first round of the 2024 US Open. However, the 27-year-old will not leave empty-handed, as he is set to receive $100,000 in prize money for his effort. Meanwhile, had Nagal defeated Griekspoor, he would have assured himself a prize money of $140,000.
Former US Open champions crash out
Former Grand Slam champions Raducanu, Stephens, and Biana Andreescu faced early eliminations too. However, each of the players will receive $100,000 for their effort during the first round. Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, lost in the first round to Paolini, the fifth seed. Despite winning the first set, Andreescu was unable to maintain her momentum and lost the final two sets.
11th seed Danielle Collins crashes out early
Collins, the top seed, was surprisingly defeated by her fellow American, Dolehide, in the first round. Dolehide won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. Collins's game was plagued by errors, including 11 double faults and a total of 47 unforced errors.
How much does the winner of each category take home?

The singles champions at the US Open will receive a record-breaking $3.6 million each, surpassing the prize money awarded at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon this year.
