Nadal set to become number 1 ranked player
Rafael Nadal is set to return to the top of the rankings of the ATP World Tour for the first time since July 2014. After a poor 2016, Nadal has won four tournaments this year, including his record 10th French Open title at Roland Garros. Let us have a look at some of the records Nadal broke this year.
Seven tournament finals for Nadal this year
Till now, Rafael Nadal has reached seven tournament finals in 2017, the most by any player. Nadal also lifted his historic tenth titles at Monte-Carlo and Barcelona.
Nadal completes 850 career wins
During the 2017 Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal reached the milestone of registering 850 career wins. He is only the seventh player to reach the mark after Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl, Guillermo Villas, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. However, he failed to go past fourth round in the Wimbledon, for the seventh consecutive time.
50th Wimbledon match and 219 GS match victories
Incidentally, the two time Wimbledon champion, Nadal completed a feat of playing 50 matches in London. Nadal also registered 219 Grand Slam match victories and is only the sixth player to do so in the world. While the Spaniard has won the Wimbledon Championships twice, in 2008 and 2010, he has failed to reach the finals since 2011.
Equals Djokovic's all-time Masters record
After clinching his 10th Barcelona Open title, Nadal reached the milestone of winning 18th ATP 500 title. Nadal also equalled Novak Djokovic's record of winning 30 Masters titles in his career.
