Duleep Trophy: Musheer, Saini script highest eighth-wicket partnership record
India B's Musheer Khan and Navdeep Saini have etched their names in cricket history by setting a new record for the highest eighth-wicket partnership in Duleep Trophy history. The duo surpassed the previous record of 197 runs, during the tournament's first round at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. This achievement breaks a 14-year-old record held by Ramesh Powar and Abhishek Nayar from 2010.
Musheer, Saini's partnership details
Musheer and Saini's record-breaking partnership saw them amass a total of 205 runs from 403 balls for the eighth wicket. The record stand ended when Musheer departed after scoring an impressive 181. The previous record holders, Powar and Nayar had set their benchmark while representing West Zone against North Zone in the Duleep Trophy match back in 2010.
Musheer's stellar performance in challenging conditions
Musheer, who entered the field as the third batsman, demonstrated exceptional resilience by maintaining his wicket while other batters struggled under overcast conditions. These weather conditions favored the pacers of India A. However, he found a strong partner in Saini who joined him during the 44th over at 94/7. This partnership proved instrumental in their record-breaking achievement.
Musheer, Saini's individual contributions to the record
In his debut innings in the Duleep Trophy, Musheer scored 181 runs. As per Sportstar, the youngster recorded the third-highest score by a teenager on Duleep Trophy debut. He is only behind Baba Aparajith's 212 vs West Zone in 2013 and Yash Dhull's 193 vs East Zone in 2022. On the other hand, Saini contributed significantly by scoring his second FC 50. He departed for 56.
