Ranji Trophy semis: Mumbai suffer against Vidarbha on Day 2
What's the story
Mumbai's middle-order witnessed a dramatic collapse in their Ranji Trophy semi-final match against Vidarbha in Nagpur.
The team's score went from 113 for 2 to 118 for 6, in just 11 deliveries.
The sudden turn of events has put Mumbai under a lot of pressure as they try to get back on their feet in the ongoing match.
Mumbai are 188/7 at stumps on Day 2. Earlier, Vidarbha went on to score 383 runs.
Triple blow
Rekhade's triple strike stuns Mumbai
Playing just his second First-Class match, left-arm spin all-rounder Parth Rekhade was the architect of Mumbai's demise.
He sent Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube in the same over (41st), leaving the team stranded at 113 for 5.
Rahane was the first to go for 18 as he accidentally knocked the ball onto his own stumps.
Dismissal details
Yadav and Dube's dismissals deepen Mumbai's woes
After Rahane's dismissal, Yadav was out for a two-ball duck, misjudging an in-drifter.
His shot was caught by Danish Malewar at silly point after taking an inside edge off the pad.
Dube then fell to Rekhade too, playing back to one that skidded across from around the stumps with Atharva Taide making a superb catch at slip.
Further setback
Mulani's dismissal adds to Mumbai's troubles
The match took another dramatic turn when Shams Mulani, who had earlier led a stunning turnaround in the quarter-final, was trapped lbw by Harsh Dubey.
Initially given not out as he played around a sharp-turning delivery, Akshay Wadkar opted to review the decision and replays confirmed that the ball would have hit the stumps.
This forced Mulani to walk back for 4, marking Dubey's 60th wicket of the season.
Fightback
Shardul Thakur and Akash Anand lead Mumbai's fightback
Shardul Thakur and wicketkeeper Akash Anand led a fierce fightback for Mumbai, stitching a half-century stand.
Shardul went on the attack, collecting runs at every opportunity before getting caught out for a 41-ball 37 while trying to pull Yash Thakur.
Their partnership was worth 60 when Shardul holed out to deep square leg.
Bowler's performance
Yash Thakur's efforts against Mumbai
Yash Thakur bowled well on a hot afternoon, his 2 for 56 in 11 overs not doing justice to his efforts.
He broke a half-century stand by taking the important wicket of Siddhesh Lad and almost had Rahane lbw on 11, but for a no-ball he bowled in trying to hit the deck hard.
Vidarbha
Vidarbha resumed Day 2 on 308/5 against Mumbai
Vidarbha ended Day 1 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy semi-final on a high against Mumbai.
The former managed to score 308/5 at stumps. Dhruv Shorey (74) and Danish Malewar (79) were the top contributors for Vidarbha.
At the close of play, Yash Rathod, Vidarbha's top run-scorer this season, remained unbeaten on 47.
He went on to add another 7 runs to be dismissed for 54.
Dube
Shivam Dube shines with fifer in Ranji Trophy semi-final
Dube made the red ball talk and claimed a fifer in the first innings. Though he isn't part of India's squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the all-rounder continues to impressive in domestic cricket.
This was his third First-Class fifer.
He did so after bowling a mere 11.5 overs and giving away just 49 runs. The all-rounder claimed key wickets of Parth Rekhade (23) and Karun Nair (45) before rattling the tail-enders.
Dube has raced to 58 FC wickets.
