Dhoni recalls texting Virat Kohli amid latter's 2022 captaincy controversy
What's the story
Former Indian cricket team captain, MS Dhoni, has opened up about his relationship with star player Virat Kohli.
Despite their famous on-field chemistry, Dhoni confessed to 'not being good' at keeping off-field ties.

This revelation came during a fan interaction at an event where he was quizzed about his bond with Kohli.

Supportive message
Dhoni's special gesture toward Kohli during testing times
Dhoni's off-field communication skills came to the fore when he texted Kohli in January 2022.
This was after Kohli had stepped down as captain of the Indian Test team after the South Africa tour.
During a difficult time, Dhoni was the only former teammate who reached out to him.
"When I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person, with whom I had played previously; that was MS Dhoni," Kohli had revealed during an interaction.
Off-field communication
Dhoni's response to fan query about Kohli
When a fan asked Dhoni about his relationship with Kohli, the former said, "It's deja vu. I was asked a similar question recently; you will see the answer during the IPL."
He added, "I'm not great when it comes to being in touch with people but yeah, certain times when someone needs you, you just drop in a message."
Mutual respect
Kohli's take on his bond with Dhoni
Kohli had spoken about his bond with Dhoni in an interview in 2022.
He had said, "That respect [with Dhoni], that connection you have with someone, when it is genuine, it shows like this, because there is no insecurity with either of us."
"Neither does he need anything from me, nor do I need anything from him. If I want to say something to someone, I reach out to that person individually if I want to help," Kohli had stated.
