MS Dhoni could script a new record, surpass Sachin Tendulkar
Indian cricket team veteran wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni has found some form in ODIs. The senior cricketer notched three consecutive half-centuries in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. Dhoni's heroics helped India beat Australia 2-1. And now Dhoni is on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record. He could achieve the same in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand starting on Wednesday.
Dhoni can go past Sehwag and Tendulkar
Dhoni has amassed 456 runs in 10 ODI matches against Kiwis in New Zealand. He is currently third in the list of leading run-scorer in ODIs, among Indians, in New Zealand. Dhoni is behind two former legends Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Tendulkar had scored 652 in 18 matches and Sehwag scripted 598 runs in 12 matches. Dhoni has five ODIs to surpass the players.
Recent form could help Dhoni in New Zealand
Dhoni needs 197 runs to overcome Tendulkar. With the recent form he is enjoying, one would expect him to go strong. Dhoni will get the chance to express himself and show his prowess against them. However, the New Zealand bowlers will test the senior cricketer.
Dhoni fights his way back after struggling in 2018
MSD struggled with the bat in 2018 as he scored only 275 runs in 20 innings. He recorded the worst average and strike-rate in his 12-year-long career. Dhoni, who did not play much prior to the series against Australia, scored 51, 55* and 87* in the three matches. He also went past the 10,000-run mark for India in ODIs.
