What's the story
As the 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) season draws near, all eyes are on the legendary MS Dhoni.
Like every other season, the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, aged 43, will set records with his bat and gloves.
Retained by his franchise for ₹4 crore, Dhoni has already helped the Yellow Army win five IPL titles. He is now set to further cement his legacy in what many believe could be his last IPL season.

Pursuit of becoming CSK's highest run-scorer
Although Dhoni has demoted himself in the batting order, is likely to become CSK's highest run-scorer the IPL.
So far, the former captain has scored 4,669 runs from 234 games at an average of 40.25 for the Super Kings. His tally includes a strike-rate of 139.28 and 22 half-centuries.

Dhoni could break Gilchrist's record
As mentioned, Dhoni's batting per match has been restricted to just 4-5 balls. However, he is expected to deliver for the Super Kings in case of a batting collapse.
Notably, Dhoni could become the oldest player with a half-century in an IPL game.
As of now, the legendary Adam Gilchrist holds this record. He slammed a fifty against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, aged 41 years and 181 days, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Dhoni could set records with gloves
In his illustrious career, Dhoni has scaled heights with his impressive glovework.
He currently has 190 dismissals (148 catches and 42 stumpings) across 264 matches as a designated wicket-keeper.
In the impending season, Dhoni could become the first-ever wicket-keeper with 200 dismissals in the league.
With two more, he will be the first wicket-keeper to claim 150 IPL catches.
