Lee Sharpe: Mourinho is falling behind Klopp and Guardiola
Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe believes that Jose Mourinho has fallen behind other Premier League managers like Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola. Lee Sharpe thinks Mourinho's tactics are old-fashioned and do not work in this day and age. He added that Guardiola and Klopp have broken new doors and rendered Mourinho's methods ineffective in the process.
Mourinho's defensive tactics not working anymore
Lee Sharpe also pointed out that Mourinho, who was always a defensive coach, is suffering because of his tactics. He elucidated that Mourinho used two holding mid-fielders while at Chelsea and was successful then because the time was different. However, now managers like Guardiola and Klopp have proved that high-pressing, fast-paced and quick-passing football is the order of the day.
No player is performing to his fullest potential
Lee Sharpe opened up regarding the fact that the creativity of many players of the current United squad is being choked by Mourinho's tactics. He also criticized Mourinho's habit of benching useful players unnecessarily. "He's not getting the best out of his players, there's a lack of confidence in the squad and there's an upset in there because of the Pogba situation", he said.
Lee Sharpe is surprised at Mourinho's public criticism of squad
Lee Sharpe has also spoken about his surprise regarding Mourinho being so open about criticizing his players in front of the media. Comparing Mourinho's approach to Sir Alex Ferguson's, he said, "Everything has always been done in-house there. If there was a problem between the manager and the player it would have been done in the manager's office".
