Most wickets to fall in day of a Chennai Test
The first Test match between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, witnessed a record-breaking event. On the second day of the Test, a total of 17 wickets fell. 17 - IND vs BAN, 2024 (Day 2)
Seam bowlers dominated the show on the second day of the Test, with pacers claiming 14 out of the 17 wickets. India's Jasprit Bumrah and Bangladesh's Taskin Ahmed emerged as the most successful bowlers, each taking four wickets. Notably, India were bundled out for 376 batting first after resuming the day at 339/6. Bangladesh managed 149 in replay. At stumps, India were 81/3 in the third innings.
15 - IND vs WI, 1979 (Day 3)
India narrowly beat the mighty West Indies by three wickets in the 1979 Chennai Test. Day 3 of that contest saw 15 wickets go down. The day began with India being at 250/8, batting second. They were soon bundled out for 255. WI managed 151 in the third innings thanks to Srinivas Venkataraghavan's four-fer. Chasing 125, India were 31/3 at the close of play.
15 - IND vs ENG, 2021 (Day 4)
A total of 15 wickets fell on Day 4 of the 2021 India-England Test series opener as well. The hosts, in their first innings, were folded for 337 after resuming at 257/6. England, who had posted 578 batting first, could only manage 178 in their second outing as Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed six batters. Chasing 420 for victory, India were 39/1 at stumps. They were eventually folded for 192.
15 - IND vs ENG, 2021 (Day 2)
The second Test of the 2021 India-England series also took place in Chennai as the hosts redeemed themselves with a 317-run win. 15 wickets fell on Day 2 as India were all out for 329 after resuming at 300/6. The Brits could only manage 174 in response as Ashwin took a fifer. Virat Kohli's team finished the day at 54/1.
